'Give licenses to help poor build houses'

KPRS, CITU activists stage stir in City

Demanding licenses to help poor people build their houses and speedy disposal of house site applications, the Karnataka Prantha Raitha Sangha (KPRS) and the CITU organised a protest in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s office in Mangalore on Thursday.

Addressing the protesters, KPRS Chief Secretary K Yadhav Shetty said with the hike in land prices, poor can not afford to have land of their own to build houses. The government land is given to private and foreign companies. The poor have been deprived from land they are supposed to get from the past 15 years. The poor who have already constructed their houses on the government land have not been given house numbers, electricity connection, ration card and other basic facilities. The licenses should be given to these people as assured, demanded Shetty.

Putting forth the demands, he said that the land owners who had not been able to give declaration for their land should be allowed to give declaration once again.

The Akrama Sakrama Samitis should be formed in all taluks. The applications received in form number 50 and 53 should be reviewed and disposed.

The Scheduled tribes who have applied for land in the forest area should be immediately given licenses. The forest dwellers should be provided with basic facilities. The liceses given under 94 C should be reviewed, he added.

“The BJP government is turning a blind eye to the demands regarding land put forth by the poor. Hence, a massive indefinite strike will be held on May 21 in Bangalore,” concluded Shetty.

District President of KPRS K Shriyan, Vice President Krishnappa Salian, Vasudev Uchil and Prashant Maroli spoke at the protest.
