The BJP on Friday questioned the propriety of Union Home Minister P Chidambaram reading out in the Lok Sabha, on Thursday, a clarification from his son on his alleged business interests in telecom operator Aircel.
The BJP said the act was against the House rules as home minister’s son has no standing in the parliamentary procedures.
As the house met for the day on Friday morning, BJP members were on their feet raising the issue.
Chidambaram was not in the House when senior BJP leader Yashwant Sinha and other party members raised the matter.
Though Speaker Meira Kumar called for taking it up in the question hour, the BJP members did not relent. Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee did not respond to the issue, saying the matter did not relate to his ministry.
Leader of Opposition Sushma Swaraj said the statement of Chidambaram on Thursday reading out a clarification issued by his son, Karti Chidambaram, was against rules.
