The Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with EdCIL (India) Ltd, New Delhi. VTU Vice Chancellor H Maheshappa said the primary objective of the MoU is to promote Indian higher education in foreign countries.

EdCIL (India) Limited, a public sector undertaking affiliated to the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development is a nodal agency for arranging admission and placement opportunities for foreign students to pursue their higher studies and training in Indian educational institutions.

EdCIL will receive applications from foreign students. After initial scrutiny, the applications of eligible candidates will be forwarded to VTU, for determination of eligibility and grant of provisional admission. Based on the provisional admissions to the students by the VTU, EdCIL will arrange clearances from different Union departments such as Ministries of External and Home Affairs for entry and stay of the foreign students.

EdCIL will also act as a co-ordinating agency between the university and foreign funding agencies and it will inform about the educational facilities available at the university from time to time, Maheshappa said.
