Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Wednesday recommended an investigation by the CBI into the killing of Brahmeshwar Singh, founder of Ranveer Sena.

The decision for a probe by the country’s premier investigating agency was taken at a high-level meeting convened by Nitish and attended by home commissioner Amir Subhani, Bihar DGP Abhayanand and senior officers.

The decision, taken hours before the chief minister called on Bihar Governor Devanand Konwar at Raj Bhawan here, assumes significance as most of the political parties were demanding an impartial probe ever since Brahmeshwar, the erstwhile head of the banned outfit of upper-caste landlords, was shot dead in Ara on Friday last.

The violence that followed his killing only strengthened their reasons for CBI probe.
The Governor, who had sought a report from the state government over the ‘lawlessness’ in Patna, was reportedly unhappy with the information provided to him.
