A 22-year-old man was killed by a fellow security guard at Sainik Farms in south Delhi in a brawl when the colleague resisted sexual advances, police said.

Suraj Sharma, a native of Katihar in Bihar, was arrested in south Delhi on Thursday, said deputy commissioner of police (south) Chhaya Sharma. He worked as a security guard and lived in Sainik Farms.

The victim, Baccha Ram Yadav, who hailed from Balrampur in Uttar Pradesh, lived in the same house and was a  caretaker-cum-security guard. Sharma was on duty from 8 pm to 8 am on Wednesday.

“Yadav’s family had gone to their native place. He was sleeping when Sharma walked into this room in an inebriated condition,” said a police officer. “Enquiry revealed that he used to sleep naked.”

Sharma had gone to the room on the pretext of taking a matchbox to light his beedi. When he saw Yadav naked, he asked him to have sex with him, said the officer.

“Yadav slapped him, took out a knife and threatened to expose Sharma,” said the officer.

Sharma sustained injury in his attempt to snatch the knife from Yadav. Yadav ran towards the main gate to save himself.

“Sharma followed him to the gate with a lathi and hit him several times on the head, which resulted in Yadav’s death on the spot,” said the officer.

Later, police took both to hospital, where Yadav was declared brought dead. Sharma managed to escape from the hospital, but was arrested later.
