<p>If you love to step on the gas and finding relatively less number of traffic cops on the streets during the night gives you a kick to speed up, you better watch out. The Delhi Traffic Police will soon be deploying special night vigil teams equipped with high-end instruments to crack down on motorists for drunk driving and speeding.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The traffic police initially plan to deploy special teams on stretches with high propensity of traffic violations from next week. <br /><br />“Teams will be deployed on stretches like Ring Road, Outer Ring Road, NH-8, Mehrauli-Gurgaon Road, Noida link road and DND flyover,” said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic). <br /><br />“The teams would carry high-end gadgets like night vision speed interceptors and passive alcometre. By just placing the passive alcometre inside a car, it could be established whether occupants are drunk or not,” said Garg.<br /><br />Traffic police officials said the speed interceptors with night vision features will help in determining speed of the vehicles even during zero visibility.<br /><br />No shortcomings<br /><br />“The previous shortcomings of speed interceptors used during the day would be taken care of with the new ones,” Garg added.<br /><br />The traffic police have been planning to introduce hi-tech interceptors for quite some time.<br /><br /> They said the new-age speed interceptors use infra-red laser beam for long distance and maintain accuracy while measuring the speed quickly.<br /><br />They also have in-built digital video recording system which enables clear identification of the target vehicle. <br /><br />According to officials, traffic violations like speeding, drunk and dangerous driving increases in the night due to relatively less number of cops out on patrol as compared to the day time. <br /><br />The high-end gadgets will help in magnifying the impact of policing during the night, officials said.</p>
