Keshubhai to sever ties with BJP

Last Updated 29 June 2012, 19:43 IST

Distancing himself further from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), former Gujarat chief minister, Keshubhai Patel has decided not to renew his active membership with the party.

Though he continues to be a primary member of the party and the member of the working committee, the move is being seen as prelude to resigning from the BJP eventually.

Patel met several dissident and former BJP leaders including Gordhan Zadafiya and former Chief Minister, Suresh patel at his Gandhinagar residence, where the dissidents chalked out future strategy to counter Chief Minister Narendra Modi.  “Both Keshubhai and senior BJP leader Kanshiram Rana have decided to not renew their membership with the party. We are chalking out strategy on how to expose the misdeeds of the Modi government,’’ announced Suresh Patel. Though Patel is still to announce his resignation from the primary membership of the party, sources close to him revealed that he may eventually do that at a programme to be held on his birthday on July 24.
