The silver jubilee celebrations of the Kingfisher Derby saw the unveiling of the trophy by Bollywood actress Shazahn Padamsee, of Housefull 2 fame.

Given the stylish associations made with the event, the Derby saw many fashionistas strut their style during the unveiling of the trophy, showcasing their summer dresses and adding to the fashion quotient of the sport. Actress Shazahn Padamsee, who unveiled the trophy, admitted to being quite interested in horse-riding and added that she was getting inspired to take it up again.

“The Derby is a very stylish event and when you think of it, the first thing that comes to your mind is huge stylish hats, sunglasses, floral dresses and pumps. However, I am not sure that I would be able to carry off the hats well. I like to dress in a very feminine manner and somehow, I am not comfortable with the idea of wearing hats. I generally like to dress safe,” she shares.

A bunch of students, who were first-timers at the Derby, were thrilled that they could watch the race and participate in it.

“This is the first time that I have come for a match and I am very excited. In fact, my horse is also participating in the race. The Derby is synonymous with hats and dresses.

Whether in short summer dresses or regular black dresses, you can spot so many stylish people on the stands,” says Krithika, who had come for the race.

Tara, a college student who was in the City for her summer break, says that the Derby can be associated with style and chic dresses.

“Hats are very in this season and what better place to wear it than during the Derby. Also, big sunglasses are in vogue along with the pumps, which go well with dresses. I feel it is one of the events where people can make a style statement as well,” she adds.

The event witnessed a mix and match of dresses and heels, along with the classic saris worn by some of the elderly women who had also come for the unveiling of the cup.

“What is interesting is that in India, you can spot a lot of chiffon saris coupled with a string of beads. I think it is a very royal way of dressing,” explains Nandini, who had come for the race.
