Five policemen were injured after a group of vehicle thieves fired at them during a pursuit in Rajasthan’s Bharatpur district on Tuesday.

The thieves were trying to escape in a stolen Tata Indica car after a robbery near Badi at Khumber in the district. When police intercepted them, they fired at the cops, injuring an assistant sub-inspector, three constables and a Home Guard officer.

Police said the thieves came on a pick-up van and escaped under the cover of darkness. They also left the car behind. The injured policemen have been admitted to a district hospital.
