Congress legislator D K Shivakumar, who is facing charges of illegal conversion and denotification of land, applied for anticipatory bail in the Special Lokayukta Court on Friday.

The matter has been posted to July 16 with a direction to Lokayukta special public prosecutor to file objections.

The Lokayukta Court on July 5 issued summons to Shivakumar and others including former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa and Girish Purvankara of Purvankara Builders to appear on August 2, following investigations into a private complaint filed by T J Abraham and Kabbalegowda.

D K Shivakumar is charged with illegal conversion and denotification of 4.1 acres of land in Benniganahalli on the outskirts of Bangalore.

At the time of conversion of land and the agreement with Purvankara builders, D K Shivakumar was minister for Urban Development.

He also entered into a joint development agreement with Purvankara builders for the construction of an apartment complex even before the land was denotified, according to the complaint.
