62 cases solved in three months

Valuables worth Rs 34 lakh returned to respective owners in Chnagar district

According to the quarterly report of the police department, in all 95 cases have been registered including murder, dacoity, extortion, chain snatching, night burglary, daylight robbery and others and police have been successful in cracking 62 cases with the success rate of 81 per cent.

Speaking at the property parade held at police parade grounds in Chamarajanagar on Thursday, Superintendent of police P Rajendraprasad said, in all valuables worth Rs 42,98,070 had been stolen. Out of this, Rs 34,98,070 worth articles has been seized and Rs 33,23,790 worth valuables are being returned to the respective owners.

According to police sources split number of cases are follows- murder - 8, extortion - 2, planned burglary - 21, ordinary theft - 37, dowry harassment - 12, sexual assault - 11 and rape - 3. Penalty of Rs 20,99,800 has been collected for traffic rule violation. About 133 mishaps has been reported in the three-month period, where 25 fatal and 171 cases were non fatal.

Traffic awareness

Rajendraprasad said that awareness on traffic rules for school and college students will be held soon as Rs 8 lakh has been released for the purpose.

Documentary films on the recorded mishaps would be screened to stress the importance of following traffic rules, he said.
