JOIN USMaking the process of property transfer easier for owners, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has decided to hold a month-long ‘mutation camp’ in all the six zones, starting August 1.
The corporation officials said the initiative is aimed at reaching out to the property owners, who otherwise desist from applying due to the legal hassles involved in getting the property transferred in their name — both in case of buying and inheriting a property.
“At times they are not clear about the documents required for property transfer. They are harassed by the officials concerned and end up paying bribe as well,” said Rajesh Bhatia, chairman of the high powered property tax committee, NDMC.
“The month-long camp will provide them an option to apply and get their property transferred in their name,” added Bhatia.
One camp each will be held in all the six zones of the NDMC. “After camp, all the applications will be scrutinised. By September 15, applicants will be informed if their applications require any extra document or there are any changes,” Bhatia said.
“The applicant can make the necessary amendments by the end of the month. On October 4, eligible applicants will get the papers of mutation,” Bhatia added.
The NDMC officials said though there is a provision of applying online, several people do not apply because of the limited reach of the internet. “The camp will bring the service to people’s doorsteps. While the initiative will promote transparency, it will also help the corporation in augmenting its revenue,” an official said.
Till July 13, a total of 2,103 people applied for mutation of their property. While 1,189 people got their property transferred, 469 applications were rejected. Another 465 applications are pending.
