Former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda’s relative was allegedly assaulted by group of advocates after the former’s jeep hit a scooter of an advocate in the Law Courts premises here on Monday.

Police sources said the jeep driven by Abhishek, relative of Gowda, hit the bike of advocate K K Ranjit accidentally. But, Abhishek refused to apologise leading to an argument between the duo.

Ranjit was soon joined by other advocates, who dragged Abhishek out of the car and exchanged blows.

Sensing danger, Abhishek ran into the room of a Sixth Additional District Sessions judge for cover. The advocates demanded the judge to send Abhishek out of the room. Later, more than 100 police personnel led by DCP Basavaraj Malagathi arrived at the spot and took Abhishek into custody and later admitted him to a hospital.

The advocates have lodged a case of assault against Abhishek in Lakshmipuram police station.

Suicide

One person allegely committed suicide by hanging from a tree in Nazarbad police limits on Monday. The deceased has been identified as Basavaraju (45) hailing from Nazarbad. A case has been registered.
