The Congress MLAs from Dakshina Kannada district on Monday alleged anti-social elements have been controlling the police in the district and hence incidents of moral policing are recurring in the district.

Participating in a discussion on the recent incident of assault on girls and boys at a private home stay in Mangalore in the Legislative Assembly, Belthangady MLA Vasanth Bangera alleged that a person named Kalladka Bhat has been controlling the police.

Men in khaki have to act as per his instructions. Otherwise, they will be transferred, he alleged.Police are dancing to the tunes of Bajarag Dal.

People in the district are living in fear. Cases are being booked against those who raise voice against them. Incidents of communal violence have increased ever since the BJP came to power, he allaged.

On Bangera’s statement holding the BJP responsible for such incidents, former chief minister B S Yeddyurappa got agitated and demanded that the statement should be expunged.

Energy Minister Shobha Karandlaje hit back alleging that it was the Congress which ruined the State after ruling it for 60 years.

Mangalore MLA U T Khader alleged that such incidents can not be stopped without giving a free hand to police.

Many top police officers are hand in glove with anti-social elements. The government should take action against them, he added.

“The incident has brought disrepute to the district. It is misnomer to call people involved in the incident as moral police. They are immoral police. They have courage to indulge in such acts as they get political patronage,” Bantwala MLA Ramanath Rai stated.
