A woman committed suicide by hanging at her home in west Delhi’s Nihal Vihar allegedly after an argument with her husband, police said on Wednesday.

Farzana, 32, lived with her husband Irshad and two sons in Babaram Colony.

According to a police official, she had a heated argument with her husband late on Tuesday night and was found hanging by a rope tied to the ceiling fan around 7 am on Wednesday.

Irshad informed police about the incident around 7.30 am after which a police control room vehicle rushed Farzana to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital in Mangolpuri. She was declared brought dead.

“Prima facie, it seems that there was no foul play in the incident. However, we are investigating it from all possible angles,” the official added.

Sources said Farzana left a suicide note in which she mentioned that she was going to take the extreme step due to personal reasons.

“No one is responsible for my death. It’s my own decision and my husband should not be blamed for it,” the note said.

However, her family members lodged a case against Irshad, a labourer, claiming that he used to harass her. Farzana, who hailed from Uttar Pradesh’s Hapur district, married Irshad eight years back.

Cops have detained Irshad and are questioning him.

“We also plan to question Farzana and Irshad’s family members and neighbours to ascertain the sequence of events leading to Farzana’s suicide,” the official added.

Farzana’s body will be handed over to her family after a post-mortem on Thursday.
