<p>A number of areas in the city on Wednesday faced power cuts for varying durations due to disruptions in the distribution network caused by kite-flying.<br /><br /></p>.<p>A BSES official said 14 incidents of tripping of power supply line were reported from various parts of the city. <br /><br />The affected areas were Mayapuri, Janakpuri, Mukherji Park, Udyog Nagar, Paschim Vihar, Nand Nagari, Yamuma Vihar, Karkardooma, Minto Road and Preet Vihar.<br /><br />BSES had issued an advisory last week, asking people to fly kites carefully and guard against disruption in power supply. <br /><br />Officials said power cuts happened after kite strings got entangled in transmission lines. Several such incidents had been reported in the run up to the Independence Day.<br /><br />Can affect many residents<br /><br />According to officials, tripping of just one 33-66 KV overhead line can disrupt supply to over 10,000 residents. Metal or glass-coated manjhas (threads) are good conductor of electricity and they lead to tripping. <br /><br />There is also a risk of electrocution.<br /><br />Last year, at least 23 incidents of tripping of power supply on Independence Day due to kite-flying were reported.<br /></p>
