<p>Desperately wanting a plum posting, a block development officer in a tearing hurry landed in trouble after he reportedly delivered a bagful of currency notes to wrong official in Mathura district.<br /><br /></p>.<p>The block development officer had been transferred to the district recently. He wanted to be posted at a malaidar block in the district — a place with a good potential to make money. So, he was looking to contact the chief development officer to bribe him.<br /><br />As he was not familiar with Mathura, he reached some other official and left a bag full of money and a packet of sweets with a peon to hand it over to his boss.<br /><br />The shocked official, immediately, brought the matter to the notice of the district magistrate, who ordered a probe. The alleged culprit was identified and a departmental inquiry was launched against him. <br /><br />“Stern action will be taken against the official,” said CDO N K Paliwala.<br /><br />“We have already recommended his name for suspension,” he said, adding that the official had sullied the image of the department. The BDO, whose name has not been revealed, is absconding.<br /><br />The incident comes close on the heels of senior UP minister Shivpal Singh Yadav’s openly advocating graft. <br /><br />Yadav, while speaking at a meeting of public works department officials at Etah, had said they could ‘steal a little if they work hard’. It triggered a wave of protest from different quarters.</p>
