Babu in hurry, delivers bribe in wrong hands

Wanted plum post, now faces suspension due to mix-up

Desperately wanting a plum posting, a block development officer in a tearing hurry landed in trouble after he reportedly delivered a bagful of currency notes to wrong official in Mathura district.

The block development officer had been transferred to the district recently. He wanted to be posted at a malaidar block in the district  — a place with a good potential to make money. So, he was looking to contact the chief development officer to bribe him.

As he was not familiar with Mathura, he reached some other official and left a bag full of money and a packet of sweets with a peon to hand it over to his boss.

The shocked official, immediately, brought the matter to the notice of the district magistrate, who ordered a probe. The alleged culprit was identified and a departmental inquiry was launched against him.

“Stern action will be taken against the official,” said CDO N K Paliwala.

“We have already recommended his name for suspension,” he said, adding that the official had sullied the image of the department. The BDO, whose name has not been revealed, is absconding.

The incident comes close on the heels of senior UP minister Shivpal Singh Yadav’s openly   advocating graft.

Yadav, while speaking at a meeting of public works department officials at Etah, had said they could ‘steal a little if they work hard’. It triggered a wave of protest from different quarters.
