All the special trains arranged by the South Western Railways (SWR) to Guwahati, to meet the rush during the exodus of North Easterners from Bangalore, have returned home.
A senior official from the SWR told Deccan Herald that one of the special trains that arrived in the City railway station Wednesday night had only 100 passengers. Another special train was terminated at Chennai as most of the coaches for it were taken from that division, he said.
The number of panic-stricken passengers leaving the City to N-E states has also come down. There were only around 300 passengers in the regular express train to Guwahati, which left the City around 11.30 pm on Wednesday. “It was a regular occupancy,” said another official from the SWR.
S Hajong, chief public relation officer of the northeast frontier railway (NFR) said that no special trains were arranged from the NFR for the return of the passengers from the North-Eastern states to Bangalore or other cities down South.
