Geetika suicide: Cops analyse evidence with Kanda's help

Last Updated 22 August 2012, 19:58 IST

Material collected after raiding Gopal Goyal Kanda’s homes and offices are being analysed with the help of the former Haryana minister to gather ‘tangible evidence’ in the Geetika Sharma suicide case, police said on Wednesday.

According to Dharmender Kumar, special commissioner of police (law and order), they will only carry out further arrests after investigators have ‘water-tight’ evidence. Several employees of Kanda’s MDLR Group—Nupur Mehta, Ankita Singh, Khushboo Sinha and Shivroop—are under scanner over speculation that they may have played a big role in driving the 23-year-old to despair.

“After raiding the premises of Kanda, investigators have seized laptops, personal computers, hard disks and relevant documents. We have also recovered material at the behest of the former Haryana minister after his arrest and custodial interrogation. These material are presently being analysed with Kanda’s help and we will summon people for questioning if evidence is found,” Kumar said.

“We may charge those who do not answer questions and eventually arrest them. At the moment, we don’t plan to arrest people on the basis of suspicion or mere allegations,” he added.

Cops are also considering charging Kanda for destruction of evidence under section 201 of the Indian Penal Code.

He already faces charges of abetment to suicide and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code and under section 66 A of the Information Technology Act.

“We will also charge him for destruction of evidence. We have not charged him yet in this connection, but we will do it,” Kumar said.

During the initial days, after Geetika committed suicide on August 5, it was claimed that Kanda’s aide were trying to hide material considered as vital evidence.

Kanda was named in the suicide note left behind by Geetika, who hanged herself at her home in Ashok Vihar. The 46-year-old owned the MDLR Airlines where Geetika worked as a flight attendant.

After arresting Kanda and his associate Aruna Chaddha, police are now looking to question Ankita, Nupur, Khushboo and Shivroop.

Geetika had also named Ankita in her suicide note and an initial probe has revealed that she was working as ground staff in Delhi when the MDLR Airlines was launched.
When Kanda bought two casinos in Goa - Mint Club and the floating Casino Rio - Ankita and other staff were sent there.
