Last Updated 05 September 2012, 18:35 IST

The Central Crime Branch police are probing the Goa links of the terror suspects as they reportedly revealed during interrogation that they had visited Goa several times recently.

Sources said two of the arrested suspects - Sadiq Lashkari and Hussain Byahatti - had visited Goa. Sadiq’s sister Seema and Riyaz’s sister Farzana are married to Goans and are living in Goa now.

The CCB police and the internal security police, who have been camping in the city, summoned Sadiq’s wife Fatima from Bhatkal to Hubli and questioned her. A team of the CCB is likely to visit Bhatkal on Friday to verify information given by Fatima.

Mohammed Yusuf, who was arrested in Bangalore, had informed police he was residing in Hubli. Investigation showed that the Hubli residential address given by Mohammed was wrong. In fact, he (Mohammed) hails from Old Vegetable Market in Bagalkot.

Ajeez Ahmed Mirja, who was working with DRDO, Bangalore, studied at the BVVS Engineering College in Bagalkot. A CCB team headed by Inspector Ganesh and Anand Kabburi left for Bagalkot on Wednesday for investigation.

Officers’ transfer

The Police department has transferred some of the officers investigating the suspected terror activities in Hubli and Bangalore.

CCB Inspector Ningappa Sakri has been transferred to Shivajinagar police station in Bangalore, while Ravindra Shirur, the inspector of Bendigeri police station in Hubli has been transferred to Belgaum. Prashant Siddangoudar from internal security has been posted to Naragund.

“Transferring investigating officers at this juncture may hamper the probe,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity.
