Encouraging students to let go of fear towards science subjects and to develop an interest in them, Secretary to the State Education department G Kumar Naik said that students must focus on scientific discoveries that are useful to society.

Naik was addressing the students at Christ Junior College, after inaugurating the college fest ‘Magnachrista 2012’.

The fest brought together students from different colleges in the City for a project exhibition and science quiz.

“Core subjects are feared much. But once students develop interests in them it becomes easier,” Naik said.

He stressed the importance of science and technology in the present day and called upon students to work hard.

Taking a leaf from the lives of scientists like Srinivasa Ramanujam, he said that students must draw inspiration and emulate the great minds.

The two-day fest is a platform for students to learn and share ideas among their peers. The exhibition has as many as 178 stalls, showcasing projects on social science, languages, agriculture, telecommunication, among others.

Christ University V-C Thomas Mathew and others were present.
