Ahkil Bharatiya Terapanth Yuvak Parishad (ABTYP), youth forum of Terapanth Trust has organised mega blood donation camp on September 17 acrosss country and Nepal in more than 500 centres.

Addressing a press meet here recently, ex-president of Jain Swethambar Terapanth Sabha K R D Jain said that the drive is being conducted with a target of collecting more than one lakh units of blood which would set a world record.

He opined that many among the public having false notions about blood donation as they would not have given blood. He said the objective of the camp is to motivate people to donate blood, which is a life saviour in many casualties and to solve problems of non-availability of blood.

Against the requirement of 1.2 crore units of blood during operations in India every year, availability through donors is just 80 lakh units.

Ignorance, lack of information and unwillingness of people  has created difference between need and availability, he added.

There is a necessity of creating awareness about donating blood in order to bridge the gap between the requirement and availability.

He briefed that registrations for eye donation, body donation, de-addiction (nasha mukti) would also be done. “Sachin Tendulkar is the brand ambassador for the cause.

“Actor Shivaraj Kumar, young director Kishan, actress Ragini have extended their support in the State while Rajnikanth in Tamil Nadu is associated with it .”
