President visits Gandhi's home in Porbandar

President Pratibha Patil, who is on a five-day official visit to the state, today offered puja at historical Lord Krishna temple at Dwarka in Jamnagar district here.

"The President offered puja and had 'darshan' of the Dwarkadhish temple. She took a round of the entire temple area," said Dwarkadhish Temple Board Vice-Chairman and Rajya Sabha member Parimal Nathvani.

Earlier, Nathvani had received the President's convoy at the temple where a special 'puja' was organised for her.

Subsequently, the President held a meeting with the temple board and district authorities regarding development of the temple and the town.

"A brief presentation was made to apprise the President about the development of master plan for Dwarka temple. We have also proposed to build a new museum on Lord Krishna and a Sudama bridge with an expenditure of Rs 10 crore," Nathvani said.

"President asked the authorities to create infrastructural facilities at the temple and in Dwarka town for tourists," said Minister Saurabh Patel.

The President arrived in Dwarka after visiting Mahatma Gandhi's birth place Porbandar in the morning on Mahatma's birthday.
