In an incident that is certain to cause embarrassment to UP chief minister Akhilesh Yadav, a Samajwadi Party legislator has been charged with raping a woman in Auraiya district.

SP MLA Madan Singh Gautam allegedly got the victim abducted by his goons, kept her as a hostage for four months and raped her repeatedly, according to the complaint lodged by the victim with the district police.

The victim said that Gautam not only outraged her modesty, but had also exerted pressure on her to name his political opponents as the culprits and threatened her if she did not do as directed.

The victim met district police chief Sanjay Kakkad on Sunday and lodged a complaint against the MLA and his two goons. “A case has been registered and the woman has been sent for medical examination,” the police official said.

According to the woman, she was taken to Gautam to help her in getting a report lodged with police against some people, who had assaulted her family a few months back. The MLA had assured all help to her.

However, she was abducted on May 25 allegedly by the goons of the MLA, who took her to the legislator’s house, where she was held hostage for four months and gang raped by the MLA and his goons.

Gautam denied the allegations and said he had never met the woman.  SP MLAs and leaders, and even ministers, have been embarrassing the party leadership and the chief minister by their misdeeds ever since the party formed the government in the state after the recent Assembly polls.
