Heavy rain throws Goa out of gear

Last Updated 03 October 2009, 09:45 IST

Uninterrupted rain has lashed the state in the last 48 hours, causing flooding in low-lying areas in Vasco and in Canacona taluka in south Goa. The Karnataka-Goa highway has been submerged at several points at Poinguinim and Mashem, South Goa Collector G P Naik said. The Margao-Karwar highway was also cut off by the flooding.

Hundreds of passengers were left stranded at Dabolim airport on Friday as flights were either delayed or cancelled. The Konkan Railway authorities said the Goa-Karnataka track was water-logged and at least four trains had been held up en route because of the heavy flooding on the Karnataka side.
