A man was arrested for robbing a senior citizens’ house where the victim died out of shock at Model Town in north-west Delhi, police said. The accused was on the run for the last four months.

Amit Maurya of Adarsh Nagar in north-west Delhi was arrested from Subash Place on Friday morning following a tip-off, said deputy commissioner of police (north-west) P Karunakaran.  Amit was carrying a cash reward of Rs 50,000.

In June 6, Kamla Devi, a resident of Model Town Part told police that someone rang the calling bell of her house at 3:10 pm. When she and her husband Kishan Lal Manchanda opened the door, four persons entered the house, overpowered them and at knife-point they demanded almirah key. They ransacked the almirah but failed to open the locker.  They fled with a mobile phone and some cash.

In the incident, her husband died out of shock.  Model Town police registered a case. Five persons have been already arrested and are in judicial custody.  But the main accused Amit was evading arrest.

On a tip-off that Amit would meet someone at Subash Place, we laid a trap and arrested him, the officer said.

During interrogation, he told police that he committed the robbery as he came to know that the senior citizens were keeping a lot of cash in their house after selling a property through their maid servant.
