Bangalore University Vice Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev finally resigned from the post on Saturday.

After stepping down from the post, he expressed his willingness to take over as the chairperson of Karnataka Health Systems Commission (KHSC) next week.

Speaking to mediapersons, Prabhu Dev said he resigned as the university vice chancellor after he received an official communication appointing him as the chairperson of the KHSC on October 10.

“I have met his excellency the Governor of Karnataka and submitted a letter indicating my willingness to accept the chairmanship and relinquish the post of vice chancellor of Bangalore University,” he said in a press release.

This has put an end to a series of spats between Prabhu Dev and university Registrar Mylarappa over administrative matters. The conflict between the two not only affected students but also hit administration work at the university. In the process, the vice chancellor’s visit to Jnanabharathi campus became rare.

As a result, students were forced to come to Central College campus, if they had to meet him.

Acting VC

In the wake of Prabhu Dev’s resignation, Governor Hansraj Bhardwaj has directed the registrar to suggest six names, who can be an acting VC of BU till a new appointment is made.

Following the Governor’s order, Mylarappa has suggested the following names: Professor N Rangaswamy, Department of Economics, Professor G Mohan Kumar, Department of Psychology, Professor Ramachandra Gowda, Department of Commerce, Professor Subramanya, Department of Law, Professor A Vijaykumar, Department of Engineering and Professor Talwar, Department of Education.
