IAS officer from State drafted for WB service

Karnataka-based IAS officer L K Atheeq, serving as joint secretary in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), New Delhi, is all set to join as advisor to the executive director, World Bank, Washington DC, under the Department of Economic Affairs.

Atheeq, who has an MSc in Agriculture and Economics, served in the PMO the last five years, and will be at the World Bank the next three years. There are 35 executive directors representing different countries.

He takes charge next week as a senior advisor to executive member and liaison between the World Bank and the Indian government for various projects funded by the WB. “I am happy as my work involves looking after the welfare of India and neighbouring countries,” he told Deccan Herald.

Atheeq is the third IAS officer from Karnataka to hold this prestigious post after K P Krishnan and K Jairaj.
