Nitish administration has deteriorated: Katju

Last Updated 19 October 2012, 19:14 IST

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar should do some introspection and rectify his mistakes, said Press Council chairman Justice Markandey Katju on Friday.

According to Katju, people who voted him to power with such a brute majority were now fed up with him.

“I am told that there has been no development in the state. Neither a single MW of electricity has been produced nor any new industry set up, or employment generated in the last seven years… And still a hype has been created about high growth rate in Bihar,” said Justice Katju, while lambasting the NDA regime.

He made this observation during a book release function here.

The ruling JD(U) has taken strong objection and said that Justice Katju should behave as the PCI chairman, and not make sweeping remarks like an Opposition leader. “Even earlier, when he had been to Patna, he castigated the Bihar government. If every time he has to criticise the Nitish regime, he should occupy the space left vacant by the Opposition parties in Bihar,” said JD (U) spokesperson and Nitish’s close aide Neeraj Kumar.

The Press Council chief, who compared Nitish Kumar to a Nand dynasty ruler, said he had to do  some introspection. “Nitish has failed to fulfil the dreams of JP (late Jaya Prakash Narayan). He should try to find out why people, who voted him to power with such a brute majority in 2010, are fed with him by 2012. Everywhere the CM goes, I am told, he is greeted with black flags. It’s time Nitish takes some lessons from history and rectifies his mistakes,” the retired Supreme Court judge averred.
