The Vacation Bench of the Karnataka High Court on Thursday exempted former chief minister D V Sadananda Gowda and his wife from appearing in person before the Lokayukta court, in relation to an alleged case of illegal construction on government land.
Hearing the appeal, the single-judge Bench headed by Justice B V Pinto sanctioned the exemption and adjourned the case.
The private complaint in the Lokayukta court accused Gowda and his wife of purchasing 7.5 guntas of grazing land in Bagalur village of Jala Hobli in Bangalore North without proper documents in 2008, and constructing a two-floor building on 8,700 sq ft without licence or getting the land converted.
