Padma, 30, stabbed by the relative of her paramour Tuesday night in Bagalagunte, succumbed to injuries on Wednesday.

Police said Padma, a native of Gubbi in Tumkur, was married for five years and had two children. However, she fell in love with Nagaraj, a cab driver from the same town and eloped with him a few months ago.

The couple came to the City and began residing at Bagalagunte. Nagaraj was earlier married to Puttamma and had two children. He also deserted his family to live with Padma, while Puttamma moved to her brother Shantaraju’s house in Gubbi.

Shantaraju traced Nagaraj to his Bagalagunte residence and began frequenting his house. He began abusing Padma and forced Nagaraj to take Puttamma and the children back.

On Tuesday night, he came to Nagaraj’s house along with two friends, when Nagaraj was not around.

He started abusing Padma, saying she was responsible for separating his sister from her husband. When a verbal duel ensued between them, Shantaraju, in a fit of rage, stabbed her in the throat and fled.

Neighbours rushed Padma to a hospital where she died. Based on the dying declaration given by Padma, Peenya police arrested Shantaraju and his two friends, Shiva and Muddagangaiah.
