Cyclone wreaks havoc, leaves houses damaged

Rooftop of two houses collapsed due to rain in the district. No deaths were reported.

House of Srinivasappa at Gandhinagar and house of Somashekhar at Katharipalya in the district have been completely damaged. Somashekhar’s house was built 90 years ago and walls, door and windows of the hall also collapsed.

Incessant rains also affected motorists as ponds on the road were filled with water. There were gravels were all over the road and made it difficult for people to travel.

In Srinivaspur

The incessant rains accompanied by gusty winds in the taluk for the past two days has uprooted many trees.

A house belonging to Venkataramana at Unikili village in the  taluk was damaged after  a huge branch of a tree broke and fell on it. However, no one was injured in the incident.
Tahsildar V Nagaraj visited the place and promised to fell the old tree which is adjacent to the house.

The downpour also destroyed standing ragi and jowar crops in many fields in the taluk.

In Malur

Many houses in Malur have been damaged due to incessant rains in Malur. It has been reported that walls of many houses at Chikkakadatur and rooftop of a house belonging to a Dalit family in the village has collapsed. The family managed to escape the fall.

The rain also affected students, traders and daily wage workers. Bus services were limited as people preferred to stay at home and roads were almost empty. Though officers concerned were informed about damages to the houses, none came to visit.
