Suspecting love affair, man murders wife

A man killed his wife suspecting her in an extramarital affair in the Capital on Wednesday night. He has been arrested.

Phoolmati Das, 24, lived with her husband Devendra Das, 29, at Holambi Kalan in Shababad Dairy of outer Delhi. Devendra had a heated argument with his wife on Wednesday night.
Suspecting that she was having an extramarital affair with a man in their neighbourhood, Devendra — in an inebriated condition — hit Phoolmati with a brick and she fell on the ground.

Seeing her in a pool of blood, he went in shock and sat beside the body. Early Thursday morning neighbours saw Devendra sitting beside Phoolmati’s body. “After receiving a call at the police control room, we rushed to the spot and took Phoolmati to a nearby hospital where she was declared brought dead,” said a police officer.

Police said there were several injury marks on her body. The body has been sent for a post-mortem.

Devendra told police that he killed Phoolmati in a drunken state. He suspected that she was having an illicit relationship with another man, police said.

“We have arrested the accused and informed the victim’s family. The victim is survived by two small kids and both of them were at the house when the incident took place. Terrorised with their father’s act, they remained quiet,” said the officer.
