The main Opposition Telugu Desam Party managed wins in six constituencies while the Telangana Rashtra Samiti emerged victorious in two. The Praja Rajyam Party of actor-turned-filmstar K Chiranjeevi drew a blank. So did the two Left parties and the BJP. The Majlis has won one seat.
Compared to the 2004 elections, the Congress increased its tally by four seats, the TDP gained one and the TRS lost three. The CPI and the CPM lost one each.
In 2004, the Congress, which had fought the election in alliance with the TRS and the two Left parties, won 29 seats while the TRS won five and the Left two seats.
Among those who won include three Union ministers S Jaipal Reddy from Chevella, D Purandareswari from Visakhapatnam and Panabaka Lakshmi from Ongole. Those who retained their seats are Lagadapati Rajagopal from Vijayawada, Madhu Yashki Goud — both of the Congress — and Asaduddin Owaisi of MIM.
The first-timers who have made it to the Lok Sabha include Y S Jaganmohan Reddy, son of chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy, from Kadapa, and actress Vijayashanti of the TRS from Medak.
The notable losers are the firebrand Union minister Renuka Choudhury from Khammam, Praja Rajyam Party leader T Devender Goud from Chevella, PRP leader Allu Aravind from Anakapalle, CPI leader Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy from Nalgonda, BJP leader Bandaru Dattatreya from Secunderabad and Telugu Desam parliamentary party leader Yerran Naidu from Srikakulam.
