Protest seeking road widening

Last Updated 17 November 2012, 17:17 IST

Members of various organisations staged a protest in the town on Saturday demanding widening of Bangalore-Hindupur and Madhugiri-Gauribidanur roads.

The protesters sat on a dharna at the Nagaiah Reddy Circle for over one and a half hours stating that there should not be any delay in taking up the road widening project.

G L Ashwathanarayana, general secretary of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, said roads had been widened at all the taluk centres in the district except Gauribidanur. He said the project had not been taken up due to lack of will power on the part of the elected representatives and the officials.

‘False assurances’

The district administration and officials at the taluk-level have been giving false assurances all these days. They should realise that pedestrians and motorists have been facing a harrowing time on account of the narrow and constricted roads in the town, he said.

Karekallahalli Sudhakar said several memoranda submitted to the authorities seeking widening of the roads had not bee acted upon.

Members of several pro-Kannada organisations took part in the protest.
