Brahmavar gets separate CDP office

Last Updated 18 November 2012, 17:05 IST

For the administrative purpose, a separate integrated child development programme and a separate CDP office has been sanctioned to Brahmavar.

Earlier, Brahmavar was a part of Udupi taluk CDPO. There are 531 anganwadi centres in Udupi taluk. By bifurcating Brahmavar, as many as 270 centres will come under Brahmavar CDP. All the anganwadi centres coming under Kota and Brahmavar hobli are included in the new CDP office.

The government has sanctioned the post of CDPO and other staff, to the Brahmavar office. However, as of now, Udupi CDPO will be the in-charge of Brahamvar.

Earlier, the anganwadi workers and assistants from Avarse village had to come all the way to Udupi, which is 30 km from Avarse to meet the officials. With the office at Brahmavar, it has saved time of the anganwadi workers if they have to visit the office of the CDPO.

“With the opening of the office in Brahmavar, the government programmes can be implemented effectively. It will help the anganwadi workers and women and child welfare department officials to implement ‘Bhagyalakshmi scheme,’ ‘Udyogini’ and other welfare programmes effectively,” said an official.

Udupi CDPO Sadananda Nayak said that the area under Udupi CDPO was large. It had created problems in the past on many occasions.

“With the setting up of CDP office in Brahmavar, it will benefit the beneficiaries as well,” he said.

“CDPO will be the protection officer under Domestic Violence (Prevention) Act. If there is any domestic violence case in far off villages, then they had to come all the way to Udupi office to file the complaint. With the CDPO office in Brahmavar, the victims can meet the CDPO of Brahmavar. The residents of Udupi can contact me, in case of domestic violence,” he added.
