<p>Nine vehicles were damaged when miscreants hurled stones at them during a procession organised to mark Tipu Sultan Jayanti here on Tuesday.<br /><br /></p>.<p>A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus and an ambulance were among the vehicles damaged. <br /><br />Police have arrested five people, including former corporator Azeem Patvegar, in connection with the incident. Later, the accused had themselves admitted to the district hospital, claiming that they were unwell.<br /><br />Under attack<br /><br />The procession commenced from Karnataka Circle and passed through Fort Road, Bhaji Market, Ashok Circle and RTO Circle. <br /><br />While the procession moved towards Chennamma Circle, the miscreants began to throw stones at passing vehicles. <br /><br />The stone throwing created panic among members of the public and, a mob began to gather near the Chennamma Circle. Police finally resorted to lathi-charge to disperse the mob, sources said.<br /><br />Superintendent of Police Sandeep Patil told Deccan Herald that Patvegar and his associates were responsible for the incidents. <br /><br />Five people suffered minor injuries as a result of the stone throwing.<br /></p>
