The Raichur division of the Lokayukta police arrested a first division surveyor for taking a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a farmer.

Based on a complaint from Ramchandra Lalnaik Lambani, the police laid a trap and arrested Siddappa Yamunappa Talwar, employed with the Special Land Acquisition Officer (SLAO) in Doedurga.

Lambani, a resident of Yelldoddi village in Raichur district, owned one acre and 36 guntas of land which was acquired by the State government in 2009. However, he had received the compensation amounting to more than Rs two lakh.

Talwar had demanded bribe from Lambani for moving the file pertaining to the compensation, which had not been moved since 2009.

On Thursday, the complainant agreed to give the bribe and alerted the Lokayukta police. Talwar was caught red-handed and a case has been registered against him under the Prevention of Corruption Act.
