Man stabbed to death, woman assaulted

A man was stabbed to death at his house in the heart of the city while his daughter-in-law also sustained injuries in the attack by unidentified persons on Monday afternoon.

The assailants decamped with a booty amounting to lakhs of rupees in Lashkar Mohalla.

The incident occurred at the residence of Abdul Kalam Saab (70), on K R Hospital road, 3rd Cross in Lashkar Mohalla. The deceased Abdul Kalam was into poultry business. The injured daughter-in-law has been identified as Reshma Banu.

The incident is said to have occurred around 12.45 pm when Reshma and Abdul were at home.

According to police, Abdul opened the door after hearing a knock on the door. The assailants are said to have stabbed him on the abdomen, killing him instantly.

A shocked Reshma is said to have come to her father-in-law’s rescue from the kitchen, when the miscreants attacked her. Later, they allegedly tied her arms and legs and locked her in a room.

After ransacking the house, they allegedly escaped with a booty of 450 gm gold ornaments, 500 gm silver articles and Rs 90,000 in cash.

The incident came to light when Abdul Inam, Reshma Banu’s husband came home for lunch at 2.10 pm. Shocked, to find his father in a pool of blood, Inam searched the house and found his wife in a room.

Police commissioner K L Sudhir, DCP K P Bheemaiah and Lashkar circle inspector Prabhakar Rao Shinde visited the spot.

Fingerprint experts and dog squad arrived on the spot and investigation is on.
The dogs lost scent after Olympia theatre and returned.

Police commissioner Sudhir said a separate team has been formed to investigate the case and nab the murderers. A case has been registered.
