K P Unnikrishnan, Deputy Director General of South Zone Field Operations Division, National Sample Survey (NSSO), on Wednesday, exhorted surveyors to be more sensitive towards their subjects and win over their confidence to collate necessary data.

Addressing the three-day training camp for field functionaries of NSSO Karnataka South Region, he pointed out that, field surveyors should keep a close liaison with the locals as also the panchayat for the purpose. Further, they need to have a clear idea about the concepts and the objectives of the survey, he added.

Stating that people hesitate to answer queries from strangers, specially those pertaining to income and finances, Unnikrishnan said convincing them on the necessity of collecting details for statistical purposes was a challenging task.

The camp is part of the nation-wide survey to be launched by the Union Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation from January 2013.
