The activists of CPM staged a protest in front of the Mini Vidhana condemning the ‘atrocity’ of the taluk administration on site-less residents of Kadalaveni in Gauribidanur taluk.

They alleged that about 50,000 site-less people across the district had submitted applications to gram panchayat and town panchayat seeking sites, about two years ago.

However, the district administration has been delaying allotment of sites on one or the other pretext and the applicants decided to seek solution for their problem by putting up shanties in the government land.

They alleged that Gauribidanur tahsildar, with the help of police, set the shanties on fire. They said several influential people gobbled up vast tracts of land since the BJP came to power in the State and the government was yet to reclaim such land, but was harassing poor people. The protesters demanded suspension of the officials responsible for the ‘atrocity.’

CPM taluk secretary Jayarama Reddy, district committee member Halegudibande Lakshminarayana were present.
