Roads in Karkala to be repaired after rains

Addressing media persons here on Saturday, he said the region has received an additional 30 per cent rainfall from the usual trend due to which most of the agricultural fields and the roads have been damaged.

The government has been urged to release additional fund for developing the roads. Once the rain ends and the amount is released, the roads will be repaired, he added. In order to find out a permanent solution to the transport problems of Hebri region, the much awaited Hebri-Sithanadi-Someshwara road works will be taken up soon. A sum of Rs one crore has been sanctioned and the tender process is also complete.

An additional sum of Rs 72 lakh has been granted for the reasphaltation. The works will commence once rainy season ends, the MLA said. A sum of Rs 35 lakh has been sanctioned for developing Muniyalu-Mudradi stretch of the State Highway, Rs 20 lakh for Banglegudde road, Rs 20 lakh for the reasphaltation of Mundkoor-Belmannu road and Mundkoor-Kadandale road. The tender process is over, he added.

Rs one crore for Hebri-Belve road, Rs 2 crore for Hebri-Brahmavar road till Kaltur, Rs 2.4 lakh for Hebri-Kuchur road has been sanctioned, Bhandary informed. The MLA said the BJP members are criticising him unnecessarily pointing out that he is responsible for lack of development in his constituency.

The roads connecting Udupi, Brahmavar, Karkala, Kuchur and Agumbe from Hebri town will be concreted up to 300 mts each. The Forest department has begun a survey on Agumbe road for its development with expansion and reasphaltation, he said.

Block Congress President Hebri Beedu Prasanna Ballal, TP member M Manjunath Poojary, M Chandrashekhar Hegde, Panchayat Raj Okkuta President Neere Krishna Shetty, Panchayat member H B Suresh and others were present.
