It was a treat for all Rajnikanth lovers — the Tamil movie Baasha was recently screened at Freedom Park as part of the Bengaluru International Film Festival. A huge crowd came to watch the film, which stars superstar Rajnikanth and Nagma.

Suresh Krishna, who directed the film, also addressed the audience before the screening took place. Though the venue was packed, the audience chose to stick around as they did not want to let go of an opportunity to see their favourite star on screen.

Baasha, which released in the year 1995, is an action drama. The film revolves around Manikkam, who is an auto driver and stands by the helpless and needy. He wants to give a bright future to his brother and sister. While Shiva — his brother — passed his police training with flying colours, his sister struggles for a medical seat even after passing the exam.

Manikkam surprises both his siblings by solving their problems. However, he also has a past that no one knows about. At this point, the film goes into a flashback and shows his past in Mumbai, where he was a don. The film is a mix of many films like the Amitabh Bachchan-starrer Hum and Mammootty-starrer Samrajyam.

It was clear that the audience members were having a great time, as they could not take their eyes off the screen. Akshay, a student who was there for the movie, admits that he’s a huge Rajnikanth fan. “The first reason to watch this movie is the fact that it has the superstar himself in it. Villain Raghuvaran has acted very well in the movie, of course, and Rajni has done justice to his roles as an auto driver as well as the don. But what really makes the entire plot interesting is the flashback. It adds more spice to the storyline. Nagma was a very popular actress in the Tamil film industry and it was nice to see her,” he says.

Aditya Makam, also part of the audience, says that it is always a pleasure to see a Rajnikanth film. “He is an entertainer and I love watching him on screen. I can watch his movies over and over. The direction by Suresh Krishna is impressive. The plot of the film becomes more interesting in the second half. It is a complete family movie and I enjoyed watching it,” he notes.
