Twenty-three-year-old R Srikanth, a resident of Mettuguda, studying advanced diploma course in hotel management at Auckland University of Technology, was missing, R Chakrapani, father of the student said quoting the New Zealand Police.

“This (Sunday) morning my daughter and son-in-law, who stay in Auckland, phoned me and said there were no developments with regard to the investigations,” said Chakrapani. Srikanth, left for college on October 1, but has not returned, his father said adding “we are still hoping for his safe return.”

The youngster’s family members said they are worried over his disappearance amid the recent spate of racial attacks on Indians in Australia and said a cyclist had found Srikanth’s wallet, bag and mobile phone on roadside in West Hamin Marina on October 2.

The worried parents appealed to the Centre and state government to take up the matter with authorities in New Zealand to trace their son.
