City police on Tuesday filed a charge sheet with the Chief Judical Magistrate Court in connection with the sensational murder of Kannada film and TV actress Hemashree.

The murder came to light when the actor’s husband, Janata Dal (Secular) member and realtor Surendra Babu, took her body to the Baptist Hospital on the night of October 9, 2012.

Suspicion over the cause of her death, however, prompted Hebbal police to arrest Babu and his driver Satish.

On Tuesday, Hebbal police filed a 300-page charge sheet in the jurisdictional court, formally naming Babu the prime suspect and Satish his accomplice.

Police have booked Babu under Section 498(A) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) for harassing his wife, under Section 302 for murder and under Section 201 for destruction of evidence. Satish has been booked under Section 118 of the IPC for not informing police about the crime.

Post-mortem

The final post-mortem report provided by Victoria Hospital states that Hemashree was killed by an overdose of chloroform, an anaesthetic.

According to the police charge sheet, Babu administered the fatal dose of chloroform to Hemashree on the morning of October 9, before taking her to his friend’s farm at Reddypalli in Anantpur district, Andhra Pradesh. Hemashree died because of an overdose of the anaesthetic, police sources said.

The prosecution has listed 72 witnesses in its favour. Both Surendra Babu and Satish are in judicial custody at the Parappana Agrahara Central prison.
