TTFI backs sentenced Chautala

Last Updated 23 January 2013, 16:29 IST

Despite the clamour to remove Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) chief Ajay Chautala, the body on Wednesday said that there is no need for him to resign as he is not seeking another term in the office.

TTFI’s president and Haryana MLA, Chautala was on Tuesday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by a CBI court for his involvement in a teachers’ recruitment scam.

“We recently amended our constitution as per the Sports Code. TTFI president Ajay Chautala has clearly said he will not contest the elections as he has completed his 12 years in the office. There is no question of asking him to step down when he is already demitting office next month,” TTFI general secretary Dhanraj Choudhary said.

The federation, last week, had held a ‘special’ general body meeting to adopt provisions in the sports code with regard to age and tenure limitations.
