Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said on Friday that the new weapons will be acquired for the commandos to enable the force to counter any terror attack in future. He was speaking on the occasion of the silver jubilee celebrations of the National Security Guard at Manesar (Haryana), some 50 km from the national capital.

An emotional Chidambaram hugged Bollywood lyricist Gulzar and singer Shankar Mahadevan after rendition of the NSG’s song written and composed by the duo.

Chidambaram unveiled the National Security Guard song “Hum hain na Hindustan...” and  thanked them for their contribution. The NSG garrison stadium packed with commandos, officers and their families broke into a loud round of applause.

Lauding the National Security Guard’s role during the Mumbai attacks, he said the country will never forget the supreme sacrifice made by the commandos to eliminate some of the 10 terrorists who attacked three buildings, including two five-star hotels, on November 26. “We also remember the supreme sacrifice of NSG commandos Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, Hawildar Gajender Singh and the entire force who fought valiantly to kill the terrorists in Mumbai in November last year,” Chidambaram said.
