The plant, rich in nutrients and vitamins such as calcium, iron, phosphorus and Vitamin A & C, is also high in proteins, fat, fibre and carbohydrates. The rich and varied nutrients found in the plant helps in curing problems related to the liver, brain, digestive system, eyes, and nervous and muscular system.

The medicinal benefits of Kasni can be found in the Unani system of medicine. Kasni can be used in the form of paste, powder and juice.

The flowers, seeds and roots of Kasni are used in the treatment of liver disorders. A decoction prepared from flowers, seeds and roots of Kasni helps treat torpidity or sluggishness of the liver, biliary stasis or stoppage of bile, jaundice and enlargement of spleen. A regular dosage of 30-60 ml of this decoction, thrice a day, is recommended. One of the main functions of the liver is to secrete bile. A glass of Kasni juice — with a combination of other fruit juice — acts as a natural blood purifier, provides strength to the heart and helps in lowering blood pressure.

Kasni is one of the richest sources of vitamin A, which make it a perfect eye tonic. Regular intake of Kasni juice mixed with other fruit juices, such as carrot, celery and parsley, helps to strengthen the nervous system. A decoction of Kasni seeds at bed time helps improving irregular periods.

Kasni is a natural laxative and is beneficial in the treatment of chronic constipation. Half a teaspoon of Kasni root powder, mixed with honey, could be taken thrice a day for immediate relief from constipation. For relief from painful inflammation of the joints, apply a poultice of boiled leaves and flowers of the Kasni plant.
