Culprit beats her up when she cries for help in park

A six-year-old girl was beaten up and raped in a park by her neighbour in outer Delhi’s Sultanpuri on Wednesday.

Police said the incident came to light after the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with Sultanpuri police station.

After medical examinations confirmed sexual assaut, a case of rape was registered. The girl’s neighbour Shailendra Kumar, 20, was then arrested.

On Wednesday evening, the victim’s mother had sent her to a nearby grocery shop to buy some household items.

Kumar stopped her on the way and lured her, promising some chocolates, and took her to a nearby park, police said.

“At an isolated place in the park, Kumar attempted to force himself on the girl. But when the girl screamed for help, Kumar beat her up and threatened to kill her,” the officer said.
After raping the victim, Kumar escaped from the park leaving the victim behind. She somehow reached home and narrated the entire incident to her parents who in turn approached police and lodged a case against Kumar.

“Kumar was arrested and during questioning, he pleaded innocence. He, however, broke down and confessed his crime when subjected to sustained interrogation. He was later produced before a city court which sent him to judicial custody,” the officer added.
