Last Updated 31 January 2013, 21:05 IST

Finding her live-in partner getting married, a 22-year-old girl registered a rape case against him, who was living with her for last five years at east Delhi’s Farsh Bazar, police said.

The matter came to light after the victim went to the marriage venue, where her live-in partner was getting married and told people present there about her relationship with him.

It was after she created a scene at the marriage venue that somebody made a call to police.

Police reached the marriage venue and took the girl to police station, where she narrated her story.

“We have registered a case of rape and cheating after taking her formal complaint. We have arrested the accused before he could marry the girl and sent him to jail,” a police officer said.

The victim was staying with Ankit Shetty, a businessman, at an apartment in east Delhi’s Farsh Bazar for the last five years.

The victim had met Ankit in Rohini where he proposed her for marriage, and the two started living together. The victim alleged that Ankit had secretly married the victim at a temple in Haridwar a year ago.

The victim also said seven months ago, Ankit told her that his parents are coming to stay with him and requested her to shift somewhere else.
She believed him and shifted, but Ankit started avoiding her and stopped taking her calls since then.

It was only on Wednesday evening that she found out that he was getting married. The accused was produced before a city court which sent him to judicial custody for 14 days on Thursday.
